Question
Do you reccomend getting injection to replace the fluid in the knees? Would you recommend Synvisc therapy? How long would this last?
Answer
Injections of synvisc, hyalagan or supartz are injections of a synthetic version hyalauronic acid which is thought to aid in joint “lubrication”. However, these the material in these injections do not last long in the joint after injection and thus likely do not work by “lubricating” the joint. I think about 50% of patients get some benefit and since the injections are quite safe, they ae often worth a try. THey certainly are not cures.
