Question
Does the wearing of magnets help with arthritis pain? I am talking about hip pain, thumb pain, and knee pain.
Answer
Magnets have been sysematically studied only for symptomatic relief from knee osteoarthritis pain. A recent meta-analysis of 29 trials of static magnets in knee osteoarthritis concluded that this modality was not effective in treating knee pain in osteoarthritis patients (reference: Pittler et al. Static magnets for reducing pain: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials. CMAJ 2007 Sep 25;177(7):736-42.)
