Question
I am 57 and I have RA. I am currently on the drugs remicade and methotrexate. I need a total knee replacement I wanted to know how well other patients on these same drugs have done with a knee replacement.
Answer
It is not really known. There may be an increased risk of infection post-op with patients on Remicade and thus it seems prudent to stop the drug prior to surgery. How long to stop is debatable and how great the risk is not known– see a recent question I answered for the plan I use in my practice.
