Question
I have Ankylosing Spondalitis and have had 8 Remicaid infusions so far, at 8 week intervals. The first 6 treatments left me feeling fantastic within a day of the treatment. The last two infusions however, have left me feeling exhausted and nauseated for 5 days before returning to normal. Could this be a sign of toxicity associated with Remicaid? What are the symptoms of toxicity?
Answer
Increased infusion reactions can be a sign of Remicade toxicity or to be more specific, a sign that your body may have developed antibodies against Remicade. However, it is somewhat unusual for the reactions to last 5 days. The usual complaint are flushing or rigors during the infusion and occasionally fatigue or malaise lasting a day or two. However, if no other explanation can be found for your symptoms, you may have to attribute it to Remicade.
