General Arthritis Q & A
PVNS of knee joint in 72 year old female
My mother was recently diagnosed with “possible” PVNS of the knee joint. I say “possible” because the lab was unable to definitively identify the tissue removed during her arthroscopic procedure to lessen the pain in her left knee. Now, her knee is swollen worse than before and her doctor wants to do knee replacement and she is in agreement because she is tired of the unrelenting knee pain. I have seen that it can be treated with radiation and/or synovectomy also. My mother has other comorbid conditions consisting of ulcerative colitis, hypertension and newly diagnosed diabetes type II. I am concerned that she is consenting without exploring other possiblities. I am a pharmacist and would like some further resources to give her on alternative therapies. She lives in San Antonio, Texas. Her doctor is having to consult a colleague since he is unfamiliar with PVNS.
Re: Can osteoarthritis be caused by auto accident?
I have severe pain in my wrists. My dr. says that the xray shows that there is osteoarthritic something or other. He says this is caused by the auto accident in which I was rear ended. I saw the vehicle coming and braced myself by holding onto the steering wheel. Is this something that will go away and is there any kind of time frame you can give me?
Hyalgan injection usage for AS
Hi, my diagnose is Ankylosing Spondilitis (AS). In the beginning I had a pain in the knee and hip joints. Than it moved to my neck and to the small of my back. First time that happened in 1993 when I was 20. At the moment the most of my time I don’t feel too much pain. But after some stress situation AS is being activated and at that time I need to use some medicaments (indomethacin and others). Also I’ m using bosswelia serata (Sallaki) which helps me a lot. 2 years ago my doctor (rheumatolog) prescribed my the injections HYALGAN and since than I received a lot of those injection in my knees and my hips. I don’t know how much those injections helped me, but they are really expensive. This is why I would like to ask you is it really necessary to me to use those injection to treat AS? I have read that those injection can be prescribed only for osteoarthritis of the knee. Is that true?
Arthritis in the jaw?
I already have arthritis in the base of my thumbs, in my hips and knees…but have been having pain in my jaws especially to open my mouth wide to yawn and even to eat. Was wondering if that could also be arthritis. Have never heard of anyone having arthritis there. I am female and 70 yrs. old and otherwise in good health.
