I have taken a series of five Hyalgan injections. I have swelling in the knees and severe pain. What are the side effects of Hyalgan?
Answer
Side effects are minimal as the material does not get systemically absorbed. Very rarely, inflammation can occur in the joint immediately after the injection. Your symptosm do not sound like a reaction to the Hyalgan. Infection and bleeding caused by the injections can theoretically occur but thankfully, they are very rare.
