Question
I have taken Naprosyn, Ibrofen, and then Vioxx, then Bextra for a very painful herniated disc at C5-6. Has anyone done studies on the effectiveness for pain of the old NSAIDS vs. the new NSAIDS. I had to stop taking the Vioxx and Bextra due to hypertension, and I’m now back on Ibuprofen.
Answer
In groups of patients, the older NSAIDS are equally effective as the newer NSAIDS (including the COX-2 agents). Remember that there is often a great deal of variability in individual patients.
