Question
Patients with osteoarthritis often feel the most pain during the night. Giving it is a uni compartmental OA, is the pain caused by the condyles mechanically pressing together even though there is no load bearing or is there another reason associated with rest and sleep? What is the best way to get rid of such night pains or is there a way?
Answer
End stage or severely damaged joints from OA often cause night time pain. Make sure that the pain is not coming from muscle spasm or neuropathic pain. If this pain is ttruly joint related, joint replacement is often necessary. I do not know why the night pain occurs.
