Question
Hello my sister has OA with bone on bone in the knee , her doc has reccomended injections of euflexxa. What is this med? Is it a steriod of some type and what are possiable side affects if any? Would these better than surgery which was her first choice?
Answer
Euflexxa is a highly purified hyaluronic acid, which is similar to the lubricating fluid present in joints. It is approved for treatment of moderate knee osteoarthritis to relieve symptoms such as pain and stiffness. As with any medication, its effectiveness is variable and thus difficult to predict in any particular individual. The decision to consider euflexxa as a treatemnt choice for your sisiter can only be made by the treating physician.
